This student, who has taken the first step towards a degree in microbiology, has not had much help in the form of academic guidance until now. She says she was allotted the course based on her marks and is keen to pursue higher education. Her father works as a driver for a rental car agency, making Rs. 8,000 per month. Her mother sells vadai and snacks in the evenings near where they live. A younger sister is in Class 9 at a government school nearby. The student said the college has directed her to pay the fees to be eligible for online classes. Aalayam hopes to raise a sum of Rs. 30,000 to support this student.
