#20181103 - 2nd year BSc nursing from Kanyakumari

This student of nursing from Kanyakumari, now in the second year of her B.Sc course, has approached Aalayam for help with her college/hostel fee. Her father died seven years ago after a severe bout of jaundice. The student’s mother works in an agro food products unit and earns Rs. 7,000 per month. She is keen to educate her two daughters. The younger one is in Class XII in a government-aided school.

The small family had to move away from their home after they faced harassment from some men in the area. They have registered a police complaint in this regard. Their house was built before the death of the father but it is not fully complete due to his untimely passing. Now, they live in another neighborhood.

The student made an application to Aalayam last year for her first year fees. During the review then, the team had recommended that the student approach a bank for an education loan. The bank granted her a loan of Rs. 40,000 and she also received some support from the local church.

However, this year, the family has not been able to secure support towards the second year fees and has requested Aalayam’ s help. After review, it has been decided to support the candidate with a sum of Rs. 30,000.
